Discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis but dating back to the 12th Century, the Lewis Chessmen recall a time of feuding Viking Lords and violent invasions.
The two sets of Draughts counters are replicas of original gaming pieces. The Crowned Mermaid counter is late Fifteenth Century and was found in Iona Abbey; the Interlaced Carving counter is early Sixteenth Century and was found on the Island of Rhum.
This set has been made exclusively for the National Museums of Scotland. It includes a Printed Cotton Game Board (31cm x 31cm) and comes in a lovely National Museums Scotland Presentation Box.
